Race Across the World brothers Michael and Marc became the first contestants to be axed from the BBC travel programme.

The siblings were among the pairs trying to make it from one end of Canada to the other in the fastest time possible on a limited budget and without access to phones and the internet.

In the docuseries’ third episode, which aired on the Line of Duty broadcaster on Wednesday, the couples were tasked with reaching Banff and told the last duo to make it there would be eliminated.

After a nailbiting race, which saw duos such as father and daughter Ladi and Monique forced to rest after she was rushed to hospital with a foot injury, Marc and Michael sadly failed to get to the destination.

Camped in a tent 800km away from the resort town, the brothers were alerted the other teams had successfully made it to the resort town, meaning they would be dropped from the show.

‘I’m gutted,’ Marc confessed.

Reassuring him, Michael said: ‘I know. We’ve done really well this leg. We hitched all the way from White Horse.’

‘Fair play to other teams,’ Marc continued before Michael said: ‘They just got there really fast.’

Reflecting on their time in Canada, Marc said: ‘It’s been incredible and it’s been pushed us and taken us to levels I didn’t think we’d get to, as brothers and also in ourselves.

‘I just feel really fortunate to have shared those experiences with you.’

Meanwhile, Michael admitted he was ‘looking forward’ to returning to their daily lives ‘at home but together’ as the brothers shared a massive hug.
